Draw a Troll’s head in two easy to follow steps or at the very least they may inspire you if you think that this is advanced stuff. A good Troll drawing is one that makes the face look like it’s been in many battles and just cool looking. Usually green in color and with huge spikey bottom teeth that stick out from a protruding lower lip.

Here we will go through two drawing videos which will show or demonstrate how to draw a classic fantasy Troll head from the pencil sketch stage right through the inking stage of the head drawing.

The first video is the sketching stage as you can see, we have to plan with some construction lines first to see if everything is going to work as a workable design. I use mechanical pencils a lot as they don’t need sharpening, just simply re-loading with new lead which seems to last longer than having to sharpen a regular pencil.

When you start to draw the beginning pencil lines it’s usually a good idea to start with the top of the head first and work your way down through the features sketching lightly as you go. The eyes and the mouth are often the most important features so plan them well and any areas that you want to recede like under the eyes and cheek bones, then you can add shading to them parts.

The second video deals with the inking process and can be quite straight forward depending on what ink pens you use. I use gel ink pens
mainly as they are cheap and you can buy more of them than the expensive ones and they are disposable too. The inking process is more than simply going over the pencil lines it is about trying to advance the drawing and improve upon it with more added details and darker more clearer shadows and line work.

You can start to ink anyway you want with the drawing, just remember that the ink can be laid down in a cross hatch way with parallel lines or you can ink shadowed areas with an almost sketchy type of constrasting shadow which definitely looks good against the white spaces left by the paper.

Watch the second drawing video on inking your Troll face and just have fun.
