Responsible Travel Whilst Travelling
Responsible Travel
Responsible travel is really about the common sense to travel without forgetting to take your luggage or leave your son home alone and left to fend of house burglars, responsible travel is also about knowing where you are going and what laws are in place abroad in other countries, so that you don’t end up in jail because you didn’t follow the laws like a good tourist.
Being responsible is about double checking everything, right down to the correct passport policies, hotel bookings, flights and transfers if applicable and even the places you visit whilst on holiday, so it is quite safe to assume that you will have to do a little bit of the old fashioned research of the culture that you’re visiting, just so you don’t offend anyone, although when I go on holiday I don’t research anything that much, because I am an English tourist and we just drink and start fights like hooligans allegedly.
Some clever person once said “to have a contingency plan is to be prepared”, one that you can fall back on when things turn sour and that’s what you need to do when holidaying abroad, as anything could happen, particularly if guns are a more prominent addition to some local gunslingers or you get on the wrong side of a local serial killer, now that would be bad luck!
I suppose the rules still apply when abroad as they would be at home, walk in well lit areas at night, never carry alot of money with you and never put your bank cards in your back pockets or car keys for that matter.
Responsible travel also includes the essentials, such as a phone, money or the means to obtain your money where there is a cash machine and it is vital that you have a responsible head on your shoulders, because you’ll only have yourself to blame when things turn shit and you are left in the gutter in another country, of course I’m just scare mongering now, as for most the holidaying runs very smoothly indeed and the worst that people get when they are travelling abroad is a bit of sun burn, but even then you should have worn your factor 25 or whatever factor it is to protect against the sun, not much use when the sun expands and engulfs the planet, but still!
Also when you are eating out in another country you have to be careful too, so just use your common sense, if the place looks dirty don’t stop there another minute, go elsewhere, it’s your customer right to do so, just don’t try disappearing, before you’ve paid the bill, or you’ll have Mexican chefs running after you with machetes and meat cleavers like I did when I visited Mexico with a few mates awhile ago, we had an idea to stop for drinks and a Mexican bean burger and we ran off only to be chased by these scary looking fat Mexican chefs that cornered my mate and he wet himself as he threw the entire contents of his wallet at the Mexicans…sigh! I miss them days!
To be responsible doesn’t take a lot, in fact it’s just simple common sense, as you have to think of the people that live in your holiday destination and what they may say if you walking down the road and you ask someone where the nearest fag shop is, think about these little things or else people may think you actually want to visit a shop full of fags instead of what you really want is a packet of cigarettes.
I like going on holiday, but being responsible is about having respect, so do your travelling responsibly!
